Combo Products in Tagrain Hospitality

Introduction

Tagrain hospitality, though available as a plugin, is more of an industry vertical. This vertical is targeted towards small cafes and restaurants who are selling food items like Burgers, Wraps, Sandwiches, Muffins, Pastries and beverages like coffee, tea and bottled drinks.

These Cafes either sell prepackaged and already prepared food items or food items that can be further modified on customer’s request. For example the customer can ask for an extra slice of cheese in their burger OR can ask for an extra shot in the coffee OR can ask to remove ice cubes from the cold drink.

These and such Cafes are further characterized by the fact that they may have a small seating area of a few tables where the food is served to the customers.

See: Features of the Hospitality for Quick Serve and Fine Dining plugin.

In the article Different Product Types in Tagrain Hospitality we briefly discussed the different types of products in Tagrain Hospitality. This article discusses and explains “Combo Products” in detail.

Overview – Combo Products

  1. A combo deal mandatorily has a Product Group attached to it.
  2. A combo deal consists of at least one Menu Item as main and a few other Menu Items.
  3. A combo deal is essentially a combination of different menu items (burgers, chips, drinks, salads, pastries, etc.) that have to be sold together.
  4. The menu items considered in a combo deal are selected from different groups called ‘elements’
  5. Starters, Main Course, Sides, Drinks, Desserts, etc. can be considered as different elements that constitute a Combo Deal

How to create a Combo Type product?

Navigate to Home > Inventory > Product. The Product Master List View screen should come up.
This screen will list all the existing products.

Click the “Add Product” button to open the “Product Card” screen.

The combo product definition screen will (in addition to other fields) has 2 accordions

Elements Accordion

The Elements accordion lets the user define the different groups that constitute a combo deal. For example, if the combo deal consists of a Main dish + a side dish + a drink, the user will define only 3 elements (i) Main (ii) Side and (iii) Drink.

Only ONE of the elements can be marked as ‘Main Item’.  While defining the elements the user is able to specify the quantity (Must Have Qty) that need to be selected from each element. For example, the user may want to offer ‘select 2 sides’ OR ‘select 2 drinks’. This means that at the time of converting a Menu Item into a combo deal (convert to a meal) the cashier is expected to select any 2 sides OR any 2 drinks.

In addition to defining the elements, the user also specifies the display order / selection order for these elements. This selection order determines the sequence in which the cashier is prompted to ask the customer to name one (or more) items for the element.

Constituent Accordion

The Constituents accordion lets the user define the constituents of the combo deal. If the Element is Main, then “Is Default” and “Should Prompt” are disabled. There can be more than one menu item selected for the Main Element.

Every menu item in the Main Element will be available to be converted into a Combo Deal on the POS

The columns in the Constituent accordion are:
Element: All the elements defined in the Elements accordion are listed in this dropdown. For eg: the possible values in the dropdown could be Mains, Sides, and Drinks
Menu Item: The menu item that the user would like to specify for the given element. For eg: For the Main element, the menu item can be Cheeseburger. Similarly for the Side element, the menu item can be Medium Fries, etc.
Is Default: This switch signifies if the selected menu item will be selected by default on the selection popup
Additional Price: This is the additional price that is added to the combo price if this menu item is selected in the selection popup.
