Tagrain allows retailers like you to define various types of promotions. These promotions are configured to automatically apply when a certain condition is met. Currently the application allows you to define the following promotion types:
–Buy X | Get Y
–Buy X | For a fixed price
–Buy X | Save an amount
–Spend X | Save an amount
However, in this article we will focus on the Buy X | Get Y Promotion. In this promotion, a customer buys one product and gets another product free or at a discounted price. For Example, Buy Shirts | Get Hat @ 10% OFF or Buy Women’s Dress | Get Women’s Bag free.
Any user who has the required set of permissions, can create, and manage Promotions in Tagrain POS system. However, before you create one, you should gather all the required information about the products that you would like to include in your promotion. Before creating a promotion, please ensure that the following are created: -
Product
Product Group
Customer
Customer Group
Navigate to Home > Inventory > Promotion to open the Promotion List View Screen. All the existing Promotions are listed here on this screen. This screen is divided into sections - Current | Upcoming | Ended. Each section displays a list of promotions which can either be the current promotions or the upcoming promotions or the promotions that have ended, depending upon what section is selected. See: Promotion Screen Based Guide
Please Note: Mark the promotions as active if you want them to be applied on the Web Register.
The Product List View Screen allows you to:
Create a new Promotion
Edit an existing Promotion
Delete an existing Promotion
Copy an existing Promotion to create a new one
End a promotion earlier than its scheduled end date
You can also edit the promotion order by clicking the Reorder Promotions button.
Click the Add Promotion button to open the Create Promotion Screen. This screen is split into sections called accordions. These accordions change depending upon the value used in the Promotion Type drop-down. Use these accordions to manage all Promotions related settings.
To define Buy X | Get Y Promotion, you need to fill in the Promotion Header followed by the Buy X and Get Y accordions. The mandatory fields are marked with an (*) asterisk mark. For a detailed explanation on each accordion and its fields, please refer to the Screen Based Guide on Promotions
In this article, we are explaining the Buy X | Get Y Promotion:
Buy Shirts | Get Hats @ 10% OFF
Select Buy X | Get Y Promotion in the Promotion Type drop-down.
Specify a description for the Buy X | Get Y Promotion. For Example, you can specify Buy Shirts | Get Hats @ 10% OFF as your description.
Use the calendar icon to specify a date range you want this promotion to run at your store(s). Don’t forget to toggle the Is Active switch to ON. This marks the promotion as active. Promotions which are inactive cannot be applied on the POS terminal.
You can apply this promotion to some or all your retail stores. Select the store name where you want this promotion to run.
Please Note: By default, a Promotion is applicable on all the stores
You can also specify the customer group on which this promotion would be applicable. However, this step is optional. Specifying promotion to a customer group ensures that the promotion is applied only to the customers who are part of the customer group.
There are 2 sides to this Buy X | Get Y Promotion - the Buy Side and the Get Side. You need to configure these sides using the Buy X accordion and the Get Y accordion respectively. These accordions are explained in the upcoming section.
Let’s begin with the Buy Side.
By default, the switch All Products is set to OFF. This means that when you create a promotion, it would NOT be applicable on all your products.
Specify 2 as Quantity in the Quantity field. Your customer would qualify for this promotion when he buys 2 shirts as your promotion says Buy Shirts | Get Hats @ 10% OFF
Then in the Type drop-down select Product Group as the option.
By default, the switch Include is set to ON. This means that the product(s), the product group(s), the manufacturer(s) or the product tag(s) that you search, this promotion would be applicable on them all.
You need to manually search and select the product(s), the product group(s), the manufacturer(s) or the product tag(s) where this promotion would be applicable, on the search bar. In the Product Group lookup search and select Shirts
Once the selection is done, you still have the option to Not Include some of the product(s), the product group(s), the manufacturer(s) or the product tag(s) in the promotion. To exclude them, search them and mark their Include switch to OFF in the grid below.
The screenshot above depicts that you included the entire product group Shirts and excluded the Solid Blue Shirt and the Solid Black Shirt from this promotion as you have marked the Include switch to OFF for them.
Now that the Buy Side has been configured, let us move to the Get Side.
Let’s begin with the Get Side.
The Save field (not the Save button on the top right of your screen) allows you to specify the discount (% or Amount) for the products on the Get Side. Specify 10% as the discount as your promotion says Buy Shirts | Get Hats @ 10% OFF
By default, the switch All Products is set to OFF. (Quite similar to the Buy Side explained above). This means that when you create a promotion, it would NOT be applicable on all your products.
Specify 1 as Quantity in the Quantity field. Your customer would qualify for this promotion when he buys 2 shirts and a Hat as your promotion says Buy Shirts | Get Hats @ 10% OFF
Then in the Type drop-down select Product Group as the option.
You need to manually search and select the product(s), the product group(s), the manufacturer(s) or the product tag(s) where this promotion would be applicable, on the search bar. In the Product Group lookup search and select Hats.
Once the selection is done, you still have the option to Not Include some of the product(s), the product group(s), the manufacturer(s) or the product tag(s) in the promotion. To exclude them, search them and mark their Include switch to OFF in the grid below. (Screenshot Below)
The screenshot above depicts that you included the entire product group Hats and excluded the Blue Foam Hat and the Silk Purple Hat from this promotion as you have marked the Include switch to OFF for them.
Now that we have configured the Buy Side and the Get Side, let us see how this promotion is applied on the Web Register.
A customer, John Luther, walks into one of your stores and purchases the following products:
1 Solid Red Shirt worth $399
1 Flex Blue Shirt worth $299
1 Green Hat worth $199
The base price of Solid Red Shirt is $399. However, when scanned at the POS it was costing 426.93
The base price of Flex Blue Shirt is $299. However, when scanned at the POS it was costing 319.93
The base price of Green Hat is $199. However, when scanned at the POS it was costing 202.93
Buy Shirts, Get Hat @ 10% OFF promotion was applied on the Web Register when the 3rd product (Green Hat) was scanned. As a result the Base price of Green Hat, which was earlier displayed as 202.93, reduced to 191.64
The breakup of the above calculation is as under:
Base Price - Discount + Tax
399 - 0% discount (00.00) = 399 + 7% Tax (27.93) = 426.93
299 - 0% discount (00.00) = 299 + 7% Tax (20.93) = 319.93
199 - 10% discount (19.9) = 179.1 + 7% Tax (12.54) = 191.64
Total Amount Payable becomes (426.93 + 319.93 + 191.64) = 938.50
In the above example, the moment you scan the 3rd product (Green Hat) this Buy Shirts and Get Hats @ 10% OFF promotion is applied. See: Refund of products covered in promotions
The application allows you to set the order in which the promotions are to be applied on the Web Register in cases where a product is covered in more than one promotion. This means that all the promotions that you define follow an order. It is this sequence the application would follow when applying for promotion. You can rearrange this order by dragging the promotions up or down in the Promotions List View Screen by clicking the Reorder Promotions button. However, if you fail to define this order, the promotion that was created first will get applied based on its creation time.
This Reorder Promotions rule is applicable to the following promotions:
Buy X | Get Y
Buy X | For a fixed price
Buy X | Save an amount
However, the Spend X | Save an amount Promotion is an exception to this rule.
Spend X | Save an amount Promotion is not considered when defining the ordering sequence of the promotions. This means that this Promotion will also not reflect on the Promotion Reorder screen. Let us try to explain this with an example.
You have created the following Promotions in Tagrain:
Spend $1000, Save 10%
Spend $2000, Save 20%
Spend $3000, Save 30%
As stated earlier, every promotion that you define in Tagrain follows an order with Spend X | Save an amount being the only exception. This means in cases where there are multiple Spend X | Save an amount Promotions defined in the application, the order of hierarchy will be based on the maximum spend mentioned across all the Spend X promotions.
The screenshot below shows the Promotion Reorder Screen. Please note that the Spend X | Save and amount Promotion will not reflect on this Promotion Reorder screen.
