Introduction
Label Printing, Receipts, and Barcodes Plugin when subscribed to and activated allows you to design and print your own barcodes and labels in predefined sizes. It lets you include more information than just the product code in the barcodes like batch numbers, prices, weights, etc.
To be able to print your own barcodes and labels, you require a printer that is specially designed to print labels and barcodes. Tagrain is compatible with Dymo range of Label printers.
The installation and configuration for most of the Dymo printers remains the same. However, for illustration we have considered a Dymo 550 Label Printer, the latest in the market as of now.
Prerequisites
You need to make sure that you have the correct Label sizes supported. Dymo Label Printers support a range of different label sizes. However, the recommended sizes are: 11352, 30336 or 1738541 Dymo labels. See: Setting Print Preferences in Microsoft Windows
Configuration Steps
The steps to configure the Dymo Label Printer are explained below:
Install the Desktop software
Download and install the latest version of DYMO Connect for Desktop Labeling software from the Dymo website.
Please do not connect your Dymo printer to your Desktop until the DYMO Connect software has been successfully installed on your Windows machine.
Register your Dymo Printer
Register your Dymo Printer on the Dymo Product Registration Page
The first time you launch the DYMO Connect for Desktop labeling software, you are asked to register your product. By registering the product ensures that you receive the latest news and updates related to your product. During product registration, you will be required to enter the serial number for your Dymo label printer. You can find the Serial Number printed on a sticker, located at the bottom of the printer.
Power on the Dymo Printer
Use the Power adapter that came along with your Dymo Printer to power your Dymo Printer.
Connect the Dymo Printer to your Mac machine
Connect your Dymo Label Printer to one of the USB ports on your Mac computer and press the power button on the printer to power it on.
Please do not connect your Dymo printer to your Mac until the DYMO Connect software has been successfully installed on your Mac machine.
Establish Network Communication
Plug one end of the LAN cable into the LAN port on the back of the printer and the other end of the LAN cable into the active LAN port on your network.
The Dymo Label Printer’s LAN communications settings can be managed from the Dymo Connect for Desktop application by navigating to the Printer Status page.
Please do not connect your Dymo printer to your Mac until the DYMO Connect software has been successfully installed on your Mac machine.
Load Labels
Your Dymo Label Printer works best with authentic DYMO LW labels.
Authentic DYMO LW labels support Label Recognition. This allows DYMO software to receive dimension specific information about the labels. For example, which size label is in your printer and how many labels remain on the roll.
Please refer to the user manual or the Quick Start Guide to learn how to load a label roll in your Dymo Label Printer.
Print Preferences - Dymo Label Printer
On your Mac machine, navigate to: System preferences > Print and Scan and click on the + button to add the Printer.
Add a name for your Dymo Label printer, select Use > select and search for Dymo.
Setting up the Correct Printer Size
Mac allows you to select a paper size to match the sheet size in your Dymo printer and set a default paper size for routine printing.
Step 1 - Launch Safari browser on your Mac machine
Step 2 - Select and copy 'cupsctl WebInterface=yes'
Step 3 - Launch the 'Terminal'.
Step 4 - Paste in 'cupsctl WebInterface=yes' and click enter.
Once you have entered your User Name and Password, you should see your installed printers.
The User Name and Password for CUPS should be the same as your Mac User Name and Password. You can verify your Mac username in System Preferences, under Users & Groups.

In the 1st drop down menu make sure that Maintenance is selected.
In the 2nd drop down menu select Set Default Options.
Under General, select your label size code from the Media Size dropdown
If you are not able to find your desired size for your label printer you have the option to select a Custom Page Size and input your label dimensions (width, height, and measurement unit).
Click Set Default Options to save the settings.
Setting up and configuring a Printer on a Mac machine can be cumbersome if you are new to the OS platform and not familiar with the interface. You may also refer to the Printer Setup Guide on the Apple website.
Print Label Settings on Tagrain Web
The print label settings can be configured and managed from the Print Barcode Label screen.
Navigate to Home > Inventory > Print Label. This will open the Print Barcode Label Screen.
The DYMO 550 Label Printer supports continuous printing. In order to ensure that your labels are printed correctly, you must select the Label Type as Continuous Feed
The Select a Label Type setting is only available for Dymo Label Printers and determines the size of the Label that you intend to print using your Dymo Printer. You can pick a predefined Label Type from the drop-down list.
The Dymo Label printers require special printing drivers to ensure accurate label printing. Please make sure that you have the latest software and driver for your Dymo Printer installed on your Windows machine. Once the drivers are installed, you should be able to print labels and barcodes straight from your Tagrain retail POS system. See: Dymo Label Printer Compatibility Chart
Set the label printing format in Tagrain POS - Generic Label Printers
In case you are using a Label Printer other than the Dymo Label Printer, you can select the Label Sheets option.
The Label Sheets option lets you select the number of labels that you want to print on a single sheet of paper.
The Skip Label Count setting is available for non Dymo Label Printers and allows you to skip the labels from printing. You can imagine an A4 size paper that is divided into grids (Rows and Columns), and each grid represents a Label.
When you set 1 as the Skip Label Count value and give the Print command, the printer will start printing the Labels from the 2nd grid, skipping the 1st grid. This can be well seen in the Print Preview section.
This means that the count specified in the Skip Label Count field will determine the number of grids to be skipped. The table below explains this further.
When you set 0 as the Skip Label Count value
When you set 1 as the Skip Label Count value
When you set 2 as the Skip Label Count value
The application lets you decide what information related to the product you want to include in the barcode.
- Price
- Barcode
- Product Code
- Description
- Barcode Number
You are just required to toggle the switch ON subsequent to the information that you want to include.
