Introduction
Tagrain hospitality is available as a plugin. This vertical is targeted towards small cafes and restaurants who are selling food items like Burgers, Wraps, Sandwiches, Muffins, Pastries and beverages like coffee, tea and bottled drinks. These Cafes either sell pre-packaged and already prepared food items or food items that can be cooked to the customer’s requirements. For example, the customer can ask for an extra slice of cheese in their burger OR can ask for an extra shot in the coffee OR can ask for no ice in the cold drink. These and such Cafes are further characterized in that they may have a small seating area of a few tables where the food is served to the customers. Prerequisites
The KOT Printing Utility is available to download only when you have activated the Hospitality for Quick Serve and Fine Dining Plugin.
The Plugin - Hospitality for Quick Serve and Fine Dining Plugin is included in both the editions - COMMUNITY and ENTERPRISE.
Purpose of the KOT Printing Utility
In the article: Tagrain - KOT, we have already covered the steps to generate a KOT (Kitchen Order Ticket). We also mentioned that a cashier has to manually select a printer in the Kitchen to print a KOT. Now, what if we want to automate the KOT printing process. What this means is that rather than the cashier manually selecting a printer in the Kitchen to print a KOT, a KOT receipt will automatically be printed upon successful placement of the order. This can be achieved via the KOT Printing Utility.
The abbreviation KOT, in the Hospitality lingo stands for Kitchen Order Ticket. It is a receipt that details some or all the following:
- Food Items Ordered
- Quantity of Food Items Ordered
- Table Number
- Special Serving Request for the Server, if any
- Special Cooking Request for the Chef, if any.
If the KOT printing is automated, it will not only save time and effort, but will help you streamline and manage your table orders in real time.
Steps to Install and Configure the KOT Printing Utility
The steps to install and configure the KOT Printing Utility are as follows:
Step 1. Navigate to Setup > Store Management > Store to open the Store Management screen.
Step 2. Click the Stores button to open the Stores List View Screen. This screen displays a list of stores already defined in the application.
Step 3. Click the Edit symbol next to the Store for which you want to enable automatic KOT Printing.
Step 3. Flip the switch “Automate KOT Printing” ON to enable automatic KOT printing for your store.
When you flip the switch “Automate KOT Printing” ON, two additional symbols appear on the screen.
A download symbol
Clicking the download symbol downloads the KOT Printing Utility.
A help symbol
Clicking the help symbol takes you to the KOT Printing Utility article on the Help Portal.
Step 4. Click on the download link to download the KOT Printing Utility. The file by default gets downloaded to your default download folder.
Step 5. Navigate to the Download folder and double click on the installer to launch the setup wizard.
Step 5. Upon successful installation a shortcut for the KOT Printing Utility appears on the Taskbar under the System Tray.
Step 7. Right click on the KOT Printing Utility and click Configure. The Tagrain Print Utility Setup Wizard will come up.
Step 8. Specify the Store Name, the User Name, and the Password. Click Next.
This Store Name, User Name, and the Password is the same that you supplied on the tenant registration page.
For Example, if my Tenant Name is: “The-Store” and my Tenant URL is: “https://the-store.tagrain.net”, I would mention “The-Store'' as my Store Name.
The same holds true for the User Name and the Password fields.
Step 9. Select your Store from the drop-down list and click Next to continue the setup process.
The Store drop-down list will display all those Stores that you have defined under the Store Management.
Step 10. Select your Printer from the drop-down list and click Next to continue the Setup process. and save the configuration.
The Printer drop-down list will display all the Printers that you have set up on the computer you are using. The printer that you select here will default for all the KOT printing tasks carried out at the Store.
You should see a “Configuration saved Successfully” pop up upon successful installation.
Reprint a KOT using the KOT Printing Utility
You may be required to reprint a KOT because of several reasons. One such reason could be installation of a new printer in the kitchen for KOT printing. Whatever, the reason may be, if you have to reprint a KOT, the application allows you to do so.
Right click on the KOT Printing Utility in the system tray and click Configure. The Tagrain Print Utility Setup Wizard will come up. Click on the Reprint button.
When you flip the switch “Automate KOT Printing” ON, to enable automatic KOT printing and you perform a sale transaction using Tagrain Web, you will not see the KOT receipt screen as the KOT receipt will automatically be sent to the kitchen printer for printing.
