Setting up Customer Facing Display for iOS

Introduction 

With the option of the Customer Facing Display, retailers can be more transparent when it comes to processing a Point of Sale (POS) transaction. With dual display setup, the customer is able to see the products being scanned, discount offered, promotion applied, and tax imposed, all while standing at the checkout counter. 


The customer is also able to track the total value of the products being scanned and any other information being captured at the time of the sale.This way, the customer is able to view the POS transaction in a fashion similar to what the cashier sees on the POS screen.


Prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be met in order to set up a Customer Facing Display for your iPad based POS.


  • The Customer Facing Display plugin must be active

  • The Customer Facing Display settings must be enabled on the Global settings page and the POS settings page

  • A minimum of 2 iPads with Apple Play Store capabilities




Important


You need to have a valid Apple Play Store account to download:

  • The Tagrain POS application

  • The Tagrain Customer Facing Display application


These  applications should not be installed on the same iPad device. 


Both the iPads should be connected to the same WiFi network. Being on the same network allows the Tagrain POS application to communicate with the Tagrain Customer Facing Display application. As a result, the information entered on the iPad facing the cashier is automatically mirrored on the iPad facing the customer.

Customer Facing Display Configuration



The Customer Facing Display plugin is licensed based and its pricing is based on the number of stores in your environment. This means that when you license this plugin, it will be applicable to all the stores in your environment. 



In order to configure and deploy Customer Facing Display you are required to install the following applications:

  • Tagrain POS Application

This application has to be installed on the cashier facing Tablet

  • Tagrain Customer Facing Display Application

This application has to be installed on the customer facing Tablet


Both these applications can be downloaded from the Apple Play Store. 


Please Note - Tagrain POS application and Tagrain CFD application must be  installed on 2 separate iPads


Customer Facing Display Configuration Steps

The steps to configure the Customer Facing Display are as follows:


Step 1. Download and install the Tagrain Customer Display  application from the Apple Play Store on the iPad facing the customer.



Step 2. Tap the Tagrain Customer Facing Display (CFD) application icon to launch the application. The following screen appears with the Device Name, and the IP Address pre-populated.





The Tagrain Customer Facing Display (CFD) application is designed to fetch the Device Name, and the IP Address automatically. However, in case it doesn’t you can manually get that information from the settings page. 


To Find The IP Address

From your Home screen, navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi

Tap on the connected WiFi network name.

Your iPad’s current IPv4 address for the selected Wi-Fi network is displayed under the ipv4 Address section.


Please Note: Your iPad is assigned a dynamic IP address. This address, though temporary, is unique to your internal network.


To Find The Device Name

From your Home screen, navigate to Settings > General > About.

On the About screen, look for the Name header. Here, you will get to see the name of your iPad.


Please Note - The settings mentioned above have been taken from a device running the iPad OS 15. These settings remain constant irrespective of the iPad model and iPad OS being run. 


The steps mentioned above are applicable to the entire iPad lineup running the iPad OS 14 or above. See: Hardware Requirements



 

Step 3. Return to the cashier facing iPad where your Tagrain POS application is installed. Tap on the Tagrain Point Of Sale (POS) application on the Home Screen to launch the application.



Step 4. Tap on the    symbol to open the sub menu. Navigate to settings. Then tap on the Customer Facing Display option under the Setup section. Then toggle the Enable Customer Facing Display to ON. 




Step 5.  Enter the IP Address that you obtained from the Tagrain Customer Facing Display (CFD) application installed on the customer facing iPad and tap the save button on the top right corner. This will generate a random 4 digit passcode. This passcode is used on the cashier facing iPad where the Tagrain Customer Facing Display (CFD) application is installed.



Please Note: The 4 digit passcode is not generated unless you tap the save button after entering the IP Address.


Step 6.  On the customer facing iPad where your Tagrain Customer Facing Display (CFD) application is installed, you should see a notification prompting you to Tap OK. Tap OK to allow this iPad to find and connect to devices on the local network. 


Step 7. Enter the passcode that you obtained from the cashier facing iPad and tap Join. 



Step 8. You should see a notification alert indicating that the devices were paired successfully.
