Introduction

Gift Cards are a very popular way to increase sales. Giving a gift card as a gift can bring in new customers and can also be a strong form of building brand awareness for your business.

The Gift Cards feature is unlocked when you subscribe to and activate the Gift Cards and Credit Memo plugin. 

Tagrain provides a comprehensive Gift Card functionality where you can define Gift Cards and sell them to your customers.

Gift Cards are used as a payment type in sales and refund transactions. A Gift Card in Tagrain has a unique number associated with it. Depending on the customer's preference, it can either be redeemed partially or in full. A Gift Card can also be used along with other payment types in a sale transaction. This extends an additional flexibility to the customer to decide how best to utilize the balance amount in a Gift Card. 

Let’s first start by defining a Gift Card.

Steps To Create a Gift Card

Go to "Gift Cards" and click on "Add Gift Card" to open the “Create Gift Card” screen. All the existing Gift Cards will be listed on this screen. 

Click  the Add Gift Card button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The Create Gift Card screen should come up. 

Fill in the required information including the mandatory fields such as Gift Card Code, Product Group, etc. from the available valid values. Click the “Save” button to save the changes. The newly created Gift Card would reflect under the “Gift Card List View” screen. 

There are a few important points that you need to keep in mind regarding Gift Cards.

All Gift Cards are associated with a Product Group for their easy grouping and management.

You can define more than one Gift Card. For example, you can define three types of Gift Cards: Silver Gift Cards, Gold Gift Cards, Platinum Gift Cards, etc.

A Gift Card can be sold on a discount. However, if sold on a discount its value remains the same. For example, A Gold Gift Card of base price 100 will retain its value of 100 even if it is sold on a discount for 80.

Gift Cards can be sold to both, a registered customer as well as a walk-in customer.

Anyone having the Gift Card can redeem or recharge a Gift Card. 

All Gift Cards are sold tax free.

There are some similarities between a Gift Card and a Product. By associating a Gift Card with a Product Group, the Gift Card becomes a Gift Card Product in Tagrain. And can be accessed in the Product List View screen. 

Now that a Gift Card is also a Product, you can edit the Product for its different settings. One of the settings that you would like to edit is the image of the Gift Card.

All Gift Cards are identified with a number and have a balance, which can also be zero. Click HERE  to know more about how to check the balance of a Gift Card.

Gift Cards do not expire and can always be recharged.

Let’s see how Gift Cards are sold on the Web Register

Sell A Gift Card 

• Go to Web Register

• Click the Gift Card Product tile

• Select the Gift Card that you want to sell

You can also search for a Gift Card by typing in the product search bar

• Select the appropriate Gift Card and specify the serial number of the Gift Card.

You can also specify the discount amount or percentage for this Gift Card

• Once the Gift Card is selected on the transaction screen, click Pay to open the Payment Screen

• Complete the sale by selecting the appropriate Payment Type. See: Payment Types

Note: Selling a Gift Card is like selling any other product on the Web Register.
